Whitehead Makes Presentation at Southeastern Psychological Association in Georgia

SALISBURY, MD--Dr. George Whitehead of the Department of Psychology at Salisbury State University presented research done in collaboration with his Salisbury State University colleagues Drs. Florence Pritchard and Cathy Walsh at the 45th annual meeting of the Southeastern Psychological Association in Savannah, GA.

Their research examined whether or not two frequently used critical thinking skills tests assessed discrete subskills. They used the California Critical Thinking Skills Test and the Glazer Critical Thinking Appraisal.

They found that, in general, the two tests did not assess discrete subskills. Rather, they appear to provide an assessment of general critical thinking skills. They suggest that teaching one critical thinking subskill may teach others as well. The Salisbury State University Foundation helped fund Whitehead’s presentation.
