White Active in Conferences, Presentations
SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Arlene White of 黑料网’s Modern Languages Department recently attended the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (NECTFL) in New York.
White represented the University on the NECTFL Advisory Council and was recently elected to its board of directors. During the conference she presented the session “All the World's a Zoo.”
With Ruth Malone, director for curriculum and professional development for the Wicomico County Board of Education, White also recently co-authored the article “Multiple Realities of Professional Development,” which was part of the conference DVD given to every participant.
White and Malone regularly provide professional development to foreign languages teachers in Wicomico County via a series of Saturday workshops with such creative topics as “A Pirate's Ransom,” “Take the Pledge” and “5cs+MI=All Students Can Learn.” Foreign language methods students and interns also have participated.
White has also met monthly with the county’s Spanish I teachers to review and edit the curriculum guide written last summer.
With several other SU faculty and staff, White attended the Freshmen First Year Experience Conference in Dallas this semester, as well as the Maryland Foreign Language Association's Spring Conference at Goucher College in Baltimore.
White also represents SU on the Maryland State Department of Education's Foreign Language Liaison Committee with representatives from all counties and higher education institutions with teacher preparation programs.
