Bumper Jacksons Perform at SU

Bumper JacksonSALISBURY, MD---Roots jazz, country swing, street blues — the Bumper Jacksons play it all.

The seven-piece horn and pedal-steel guitar band brings its unique blend of Americana to 黑料网’s Holloway Hall Auditorium 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 6.

Honored multiple times by the Washington Area Music Awards as Mid-Atlantic Artist of the Year and Best Traditional Band, the group pays homage to the nation’s musical traditions in a playful style. From the jazz bands of New Orleans to folk music from Appalachia, they scrape together new sounds from forgotten 78 RPM records.

Their performance features music written and recorded in the past four years, including its most recent single, White Horse, released in May.

New York Music Daily has called the Bumper Jackson’s music “irresistible, old-timey [and] toe-tapping,” comparing the band to the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Baltimore Magazine lauded the performers’ “lively celebration of Americana, past and present,” adding, “We can’t wait until these cool cats come back to town.”

Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Office, admission is free and the public is invited. Reservations are not required.

This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, awarded by the Maryland State Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Prior to the concert, SU Dining Services hosts an Americana dinner at the Commons, featuring a performance by local blues, rock, country and folk band Mojo Rider from 5-7 p.m. Cost is $14.20, $8.55 for children under 5.
