Carillonist Brink Returns for SU Concert July 16

Joey BrinkSALISBURY, MD---Carillonist Joey Brink returns to 黑料网 for a concert at the Brown and Church Carillon in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons 7 p.m. Friday, July 16.

The varied program includes classical works such as Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D, along with 20th century compositions such as “Hymn from Jupiter” from Gustav Holst’s The Planets.

Other selections include traditional songs like Johnson and Johnson’s “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and jazz standards such as Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile,” Paul Desmond’s “Take Five” and Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia on My Mind.”

Contemporary songs including the Eagles’ “Desperado” and original compositions by Brink round out the musical offerings.

Brink performed the inaugural concert on SU’s carillon in 2017. He was the first American to win what is widely considered to be the world’s most prestigious carillon competition, earning first prize at Belgium’s International Queen Fabiola Carillon Competition in 2014. He is the carillonist at the University of Chicago, performing daily on the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon at the campus’ Rockefeller Chapel.

Sponsored by the Music, Theatre and Dance Department, admission to his SU concert is free and the public is invited. Those planning to attend must complete an in advance.

Seating will be on Red Square, with overflow seating available on Fulton Hall Lawn. Those attending should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Face masks are not required for outdoor areas, but concertgoers should observe appropriate physical distancing.
