Environmental Studies Colloquium This Spring at SU

SALISBURY, MD---黑料网’s Environmental Studies Colloquium Series returns this spring with four presentations 7 p.m. select Wednesdays during the semester, in Henson Science Hall Room 243.
Topics include:
- February 8 – “Study Abroad Experiences”: Students interested in possibly studying abroad hear from students who have completed similar opportunities about potential winter, summer and semester-long opportunities for learning and travel.
- March 8 – “Chesapeake Bay Program: How it Began”: Dr. Andrew Ramey, historian at Carnegie Mellon University, explains how the Chesapeake Bay Program has evolved over its 40 years. This event is co-sponsored by the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture.
- April 5 – “Draining the Swamp: An Environmental History of Wetlands on a College Campus”: Dr. Jennifer Mapes, assistant professor of geography at Kent State University, shares her work on how the removal and eventual restoration of wetlands on the Kent State campus was influenced by changes in cultural values.
- May 3 – “Decolonial Environmentalisms: On How Latinx Science Fiction Expands Environmental Justice”: Dr. David Vázquez, program director of Latinx studies at American University, examines how Alex Rivera’s 2009 film Sleep Dealer mobilizes expansive ideas about land use, water rights and equal access to the global economy.
