SU Hosts Focus on Asia Speaker Series This Spring

SALISBURY, MD---黑料网 welcomes preeminent scholars of Asian history to discuss thought-provoking studies of imperialism in Asia during the Focus on Asia Speaker Series, with the theme “Imperialism in Asia,” throughout the spring semester.

Lectures are 7 p.m. in Conway Hall Room 153.

Each visiting scholar gives a talk on their area of expertise, followed by a moderated discussion making interdisciplinary and transnational connections, as attendees consider re-evaluating the global history of the foundational and troubling phenomenon of imperialism that still has repercussions today.

Speakers, topics and dates include:

  • Monday, March 4 - “Medicine and Imperialism: An Anatomical Tour of East Asia, Circa 1917” with Dr. David Luesink, associate professor of history, Sacred Heart University
  • Thursday, March 28 – “Japanese Empire in History and Memory” with Dr. Louise Young, professor of history, University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Tuesday, April 9 – “Making Religion Anew: Reform, Empire and Power in 19th Century India” with Dr. Neilesh Bose, associate professor and Canada research chair, global and comparative history, University of Victoria
