Dr. Arlene White Presents On Foreign Language Instruction

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Arlene White of the Department of Modern Languages at 黑料网, recently gave several presentations related to teaching foreign language.

After being re-elected vice president of the Maryland Foreign Language Association’s Board of Directors, White presented a session titled "MI + 5Cs = Learning for All Students" at the association’s fall conference.

For another presentation, "DIVAs: Diverse, Innovative and Varied Activities for the Foreign Language Classroom." she was joined by Sherri Harkins of Salisbury Middle School, Patricia Powell of Wicomico High School, Rusty Mumford from Somerset County and Leslie Grahn and Debbie Espitia from Howard County. The session provided pedagogically sound activities based on national standards for foreign languages and multiple intelligences theories.

White and Ruth Malone, director for Curriculum and Professional Development for Wicomico County Public Schools, presented the workshop "Putting the Puzzle Pieces Together,” which showed teachers how to integrate national foreign language standards into creative lessons. The workshop preceded the annual American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Conference in Nashville.

White has also been working with Wicomico County Spanish, French and Latin foreign language teachers to refine curriculum guidelines and review activities, strategies and assessment procedures based on materials developed during the summer.
