Flood Warning Issued for Wicomico County, Surrounding Areas May 18

SALISBURY, MD---The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Wicomico County and in surrounding regions until 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 18.

Standing water has now covered some low-lying areas. A flood watch remains in effect until midnight, as an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected this evening. Showers remain likely and thunderstorms possible throughout the weekend, the NWS said.

The campus and local communities are encouraged to avoid traveling through flooded areas and to use caution when driving. The University will remain open.

Over 3 inches of rain have fallen in many areas over the past two days, creating minor flooding, compounded by overflowing drainage areas, the NWS said. Heavy rain is expected through this evening, with showers likely and thunderstorms possible throughout the weekend.

The campus and surrounding communities are encouraged to avoid traveling through flooded areas and to use caution when driving. The University is expected to remain open during this weather event.
