High School Mathematics Competition Celebrates 20 Years
SALISBURY, MD---Some 63 students from 21 schools in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia demonstrated their math expertise individually and in teams during the 20th annual High School Mathematics Competition at 黑料网.
“Since 1984, it has been our privilege to bring together high school students and teachers from throughout the region for this unique celebration of mathematics,” said Dr. Kurt Ludwick, competition chair.
Pocomoke High School won the team competition with students Brooks Beyma, Katrina LaCurts and Mark Thompson, and Coach Carvel LaCurts. Delmar High School placed second with students Mark DeMorra, Josh Griffin and Scott Johnson, and Coach Gerry Mitchell. Easton High School placed third with students John McCrone, Tien Nguyen and Chris Zoller, and Coach Beth Lloyd.
Easton’s John McCrone won the individual competition. Delmar’s Mark DeMorra finished second. Gary Cheng of Wicomico High School, Katrina LaCurts of Pocomoke, James Marshall of Snow Hill High School and Kyle Shahan of James M. Bennett High School tied for third.
Conectiv Power Delivery, SunTrust Bank and SU’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science cosponsored the event. U.S. Savings Bonds ranging from $50 to $100 and special math-related books were awarded to the top three students in the individual portion of the competition, as well as to students on the three best teams.
Each participating student received a certificate and commemorative T-shirt. SU has hosted the competition for two decades.
