Maryland Nurses Association Awards Two SU Scholarships

SALISBURY, MD---Two 黑料网 nursing students have received scholarships from the Maryland Nurses Association.

Senior Elizabeth Webb of Easton, MD, who is pursuing a B.S. in nursing, earned the Mae Muhr Nursing Scholarship. Kevin Harrison of Newark, DE, who graduated from SU’s accelerated second degree nursing program in December 2012, was awarded the Ruth Hans Scholarship.

Maryland Nurses Association Awards Two SU Scholarships“I am very grateful for the scholarship and for the experiences and opportunities it has opened up for me," said Webb, who is the oldest of seven children and responsible for her own education expenses.

In January 2013, for winter term, she studied abroad in Cuenca, Ecuador, with eight other SU nursing students. The award helped pay for her “life-changing experience,” which included a class on cultural considerations in health and wellness.

“The experience was absolutely amazing and I am so thankful that I was able to immerse myself in a different culture and to see how the Ecuadorian health care system differs from the United States," she added.

Kevin Harrison and SonHarrison said: “I consider it a great honor to be selected. Only a handful of scholarships were awarded.”

He added that the award helped reduce his student loans and alleviate some of the financial pressure he felt while taking classes and being the sole income earner for his family, which now includes four children under age six.

He currently works as a critical care nurse at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.

Webb’s award, named in honor of a long-time Maryland nurse educator, recognizes academic achievement, leadership and community service. Harrison’s scholarship also recognizes achievement, leadership and service, as well as dedication to promoting lifelong learning and best practices in nursing.

Webb graduates in May 2013. In addition to the MNA scholarship, Harrison was among eight Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing Scholars at SU.
