SU Department of Music Hosts 'An Afternoon in Paris' Friday, February 14

SALISBURY, MD---Sopranos Barbara Ann Peters and Shaina Virginia Kuhn join pianist James Harp for “An Afternoon in Paris” Friday, February 14.

The all-French concert is 8 p.m. in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

Peters has performed at Carnegie Hall and has been a featured soloist with the New York Chamber Choir, Manhattan String Quartet, and Dallas, Santa Fe and Springfield symphony orchestras, among others. She has been featured on television in Europe and the United States and has toured both extensively, giving recitals in cities including Rome, Paris and Munich.

Prior to the Friday evening concert, she leads master classes with SU voice majors preparing for the 2014 National Association of Teachers of Singing competitions 12:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday, February 13-14, in the Great Hall.

Kuhn has been hailed by The Washington Post as a “charmingly goofy” soprano with operatic credits including Marianne in Tartuffe, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Yum-Yum in The Mikado and Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro. She has performed regularly in Maryland and North Carolina, including leading ladies of the theatre such as Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Isabel in Scrooge and Lady Larkin in Once Upon a Mattress.

Harp is known in the Baltimore area as a pianist, organist, stage director, singer, composer, lecturer, writer and conductor. The artistic director of Lyric Opera Baltimore, he has performed throughout Europe and in the United States. His accomplishments include singing “My Old Kentucky Home” on national television as a soloist during the Kentucky Derby and coaching actress Lily Tomlin in arias for Aida for an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street.
