The host of the Eastern Shore Senior Games since 2000, SU has earned the Maryland Senior Olympics’ 2009 Robert G. Zeigler Service Award.
Named for the organization’s founder, the award recognizes those who have provided outstanding assistance to the Senior Olympics, which were held at Towson University from 1980-2005. SU hosted the statewide games in 2007 while the event transitioned from Towson to its current home in Montgomery County.
Salisbury “provided invaluable assistance to us in the conduct of our games in 2007 as we moved through a major transition from Towson University,” said Edward P. Wroth, executive director of the Maryland Senior Olympics. “We hope that this award will reflect our deep gratitude.”
Each year the Maryland Senior Olympics hosts hundreds of athletes ages 50 and over in some 25 events from fencing to a triathlon.
The 11th annual Eastern Shore Senior Games are scheduled Thursday-Saturday, April 8-10, 2010. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu/seniorgames.
