SU Hosts 24th Annual High School Math Competition

SALISBURY, MD---黑料网 recently hosted the 24th annual Eastern Shore High School Mathematics Competition. Students from Delmarva area high schools demonstrated their mathematical expertise both individually and in teams during this event.
“This event is valued very highly by SU’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science,” said Dr. Kurt Ludwick, who directs the competition with Dr. Jennifer Bergner. “Every year we are excited to provide this opportunity for students and teachers from throughout the region to come together for a day devoted entirely to the appreciation of mathematics.”
Taking first-place was the James M. Bennett High School team, comprised of students Molly Cinderella, Pearle Lipinski and Derek Wu. Coming in second-place was Stephen Decatur High School team members Bonnie Eisenman, Matthew Smarte and Keith Spangler. The third-place team was Seaford High School’s Dan Flagg, Trevor Lee and Tuyet-Nhung-Nguyen. All team winners received a book and a $50 savings bond.
The first-place winner of the individual portion of the competition was Derek Wu of James M. Bennett High School. Wu is the son of Drs. Ying Wu and Hong Yao of the Economics and Finance Department in SU’s Perdue School of Business. He received a $100 savings bond and a book.
The second-place individual winner was Molly Cinderella of James M. Bennett High School, who received a $75 savings bond and a book. The third-place winner is Ross Roessler of Worcester Preparatory School, who received a $50 savings bond and a book. All contestants received a certificate of participation and t-shirt.
