SU Welcomes International Students for Summer Study

Janet Dudley-Eshbach ISAPSALISBURY, MD---Nearly 100 international students from partner universities in China, South Korea and Spain completed a month-long Intensive Study Abroad Program (ISAP) at 黑料网.

Held for the third year by SU’s English Language Institute, the program provides students with intensive English language instruction and immersion experiences that reflect American life, history and culture.

This year’s group attended a Shorebirds game, spotted bald eagles while kayaking the Pocomoke River, met Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton, learned about law enforcement from the Wicomico County Sherriff’s Office, visited Assateague Island, and explored U.S. history in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.

They also learned about each other’s cultures and how to navigate on their own in a new country, said Renee Callaghan, who co-directed ISAP with Chandra Yesiltas.

SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach, a Latin American literature and Spanish-language scholar, applauded the students at a closing picnic.

“The time I have spent in other countries has taught me so much, not just about language, but about the world,” she said. “It is an honor to have you all here. You bring the world to our campus.”

Sixteen of the students will continue their studies by pursing degrees at SU in the fall.
