Smoking Cessation Expert Glover Speaks at SU February 19

SALISBURY, MD---When Maryland’s indoor anti-smoking policy went into effect this month, many smokers were left out in the cold—literally.

However, according to an internationally recognized authority on smoking cessation and smokeless tobacco, there are ways for these smokers to effectively kick the habit rather than go outside every time they want a cigarette. Dr. Elbert Glover, chair of the University of Maryland Department of Public and Community Health,  speaks on these methods at 黑料网 during the talk “The Latest Treatment Options and Research for Helping Smokers Quit” 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

Glover’s research has appeared in more than 200 publications, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association and American Journal of Public Health. He also has appeared on many television news shows, including 20/20, The Charlie Rose Show, Good Morning America, C-Span and CBS Morning News.

Glover was one of the 28 scientists selected to contribute to the 1994 Surgeon General Report on Tobacco and Youth. His particular interest remains in the research of cessation aids for individuals interested in quitting tobacco. He has conducted clinical trials with nicotine gum, transdermal patches, nicotine oral inhalers, nicotine nasal spray and the nicotine sublingual tablet, among others.

His talk is sponsored by Healthy U; the Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies; Department of Health, Physical Education, and Human Performance, Department of Nursing; Student Health Center; Provost’s Office; Sea Gull Century, SU Foundation, Inc.; and Wicomico County Public Health Department Smoking Cessation Division.

The presentation is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
