SU Dining Services Earns A+ on PETA2 Vegan Report Card

SU Students in Dining HallSALISBURY, MD---黑料网’s Dining Services again has one of the highest student vegan satisfaction ratings in Maryland, according to a recent survey by PETA2, the youth division of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

SU students gave the University a 75 percent satisfaction rating in PETA2’s 2018 Vegan Report Card survey, tied with the University of Maryland, College Park, and University of Maryland, Baltimore. Of the three, Salisbury was the only school to make PETA2’s “Dean’s List,” earning an A-plus rating — the highest in SU’s history.

Salisbury traditionally has done well in PETA2’s surveys, including a 2014 nomination for the nation’s “Favorite Vegan-Friendly College.”

This year’s Report Card noted that SU offers at least one vegan entrée at every meal, provides non-dairy milk, clearly labels vegan entrées and desserts, and offers a vegan dining station.

SU’s new website identifies vegan items offered by University Dining Services (UDS), as well as those that satisfy other dietary needs and preferences, including allergen information. Vegans and vegetarians have praised SU’s salad bar, which has expanded with a variety of fresh greens, grains and other meatless alternatives.

“SU’s Commons dining hall also offers a daily vegan soup at its ‘Plato’s Plate’ dining station, such as black bean pumpkin, my personal favorite,” said Owen Rosten, UDS director.

Tofu and other plant-based proteins also are staples in recipes served there. Vegan-friendly cellophane noodles are available as an option in made-to-order stir fries.

“Vegan options also are a staple in our expanded grab-and-go and retail locations,” said Rosten. “Such items as the ‘Impossible Burger’ and vegan vegetable wraps are favorites.”
