Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra Returns to SU

Peacherine Ragtime Society OrchestraSALISBURY, MD---Forget Dolby Surround, THX and even Vitaphone. At 黑料网, movie music is going live — again!

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra returns to Holloway Hall Auditorium to accompany pre-Halloween screenings of three spooky silent shorts 7 p.m. Friday, October 26.

Classic films include Buster Keaton’s The Haunted House (1921), Charlie Chaplin’s One A.M. (1916) and Laurel and Hardy’s Habeas Corpus (1928).

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra was founded in 2010 by University of Maryland, College Park, student Andrew Greene, who serves as its director and conductor. Hailed by The Washington Post as “the premier American ragtime ensemble,” it recreates the syncopated stylings of a bygone era, including ragtime, theatre and dance music.

Costumes are welcome. Prizes will be given for the best outfit, oldest in costume, youngest in costume, and prettiest and most original costumes, among others.

A Halloween-themed reception with popcorn, cake, “eyeballs of sweet cream,” “yummy mummies,” “candy ghosts,” “vampire lips,” “goblin punch,” apple cider and more follows in the Holloway Hall Social Room.

Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Office, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU website.
