SU Dance Company Presents Fall Showcase 'Somos'
SALISBURY, MD---The 黑料网 Dance Company presents its Fall Student Showcase “Somos” Friday-Sunday, November 19-21, in the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall.
Directed by Helen Myers and associate director Shelby Trenary, curtain is 7:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The show includes seven works choreographed and performed by SU students.
The concert features a variety of movement styles including ballet, jazz, modern and theatrical dance. Two other jazz-inspired pieces illuminate nights out with friends as well as powerful physicality.
Other theatrical dances in the concert tell a story - one of growing older with a partner, and the other of new friendship. Kate Carpenter take a fresh approach to the classic Beatles song “When I’m Sixty-Four,” exploring the humorous side of growing older with a partner. Kam Tross created a dance choreographed around a sunny day on a park bench, with two dancers getting to know each other through lyrical balletic and Latin-based movements.
Amani Howard choreographed “Dear Loved Ones,” a mysterious yet hopeful dance revolving around a remembrance of the love for others. Other choreographers chose to present their dances in a contemporary athletic style, showcasing emotion and creativity, as well as strength and extreme physicality.
The showcase closes with an all-company piece. “Never Let Me Down,” by guest choreographer Jessica Hindman, is a fun, street-style dance for the whole company, set to an original song by Kentavius Jones.
