SALISBURY, MD---The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tropical storm warning for Wicomico County and surrounding areas. A flash flood watch is in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, July 9.
Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to pass through the area between approximately 10 p.m. Thursday, July 8, and 2 a.m. Friday, July 9. During this time, there will be a potential for tropical storm force winds gusting up to 40 mph, with 1-3 inches of rain across the Delmarva Peninsula and up to 6 inches in localized areas.
The NWS has cautioned this could lead to fallen trees and scattered power outages. There also is a remote possibility of tornados.
Moderate flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas. Drivers are encouraged to be alert for fallen trees and other debris on roadways, as well as fallen or displaced road signs.
