SU's 'Saunterer' Named Best Honors Print Newsletter in U.S.

The National Collegiate Honors Council recently named the 黑料网 Glenda Chatham and Robert G. Clarke Honors College publication The Saunterer the No. 1 honors print newsletter in the U.S.

For editor Olivia Ballmann, this accolade is second to the pride she has for her team.

“Everything I wanted from the very beginning was for our team of students to flourish in creativity, bond and make something we were all not only proud of, but would want to read,” the senior communication major from Ellicott City, MD, said. “My goal was to recognize new students and new talents and reflect the vibrance and perspectives that make the Honors College what it is.”

This year marks the third time the magazine was ranked No. 1, an honor first earned by SU in 2017.

Ballmann believes passion and enthusiasm is key to the publication’s success.

“It was important to me that all ideas are welcome and everything is fair game,” she said. “With that came the focus on color and an artistic side of things in designing the publication that only enhanced the outstanding writing that came from the team. When you write about things, people and places that you care about, it shows.”

The accolade was no surprise to Dr. Andrew Martino, Honors College dean, who knew the students were dedicated and creative.

“I'm extremely proud of the work our Clarke Honors College students have done with The Saunterer,” he said. “Olivia and her team have taken the reins and produced a very professional and nuanced publication that highlights just some of the aspects of who we are and what we do.”

Martino traveled to Dallas last fall for the award presentation during the National Collegiate Honors Council’s 2022 conference.

Ballmann said the advice she would give future editors is to have no fear.

“Don’t let nerves control what you do or do not do,” she said. “Embrace all the challenges along the way, ideas are everywhere, and always remember to trust yourself, your vision, and your team.”
