SU Educational Leadership Master's Program Transitioning Online
By SU Public Relations
SALISBURY, MD---黑料网 is always working to meet students where they are, literally and figuratively.
To meet the growing demand from teachers for an all-virtual master’s program, SU’s Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education recently announced that it will begin offering an online M.Ed. in Educational Leadership leading to the Maryland Administrator I license.
“It’s just a sign of the times. It was user demand with people wanting programs in the online environment,” said Dr. Doug DeWitt, chair of SU’s Leadership and Literacy Studies Department. “These are working professionals, so now they will be able to go home, fix dinner, sit down at the computer and go to class.
“And it takes them just five minutes to get to class instead of having to make a trip, sometimes more than an hour, to get to campus. There are a lot of little reasons that I think it’s going to be better for our students.”
The program, which has been one of the most popular in the Seidel School for decades, will follow the same curriculum it has in the past, just in a virtual setting, with synchronous and asynchronous courses, small class environments and one-on-one availability with the experienced faculty.
Students will complete an internship as part of their course work, but with most in the program already teaching full time, they normally complete this internship in the school at which they are already teaching.
Moving to an online platform also will allow those who have earned their undergraduate degrees at SU to continue their education at the University, even if they hadn’t remained on the Eastern Shore.
“We have a lot of undergraduate alumni who go back to their hometowns to teach, and if they want to go into administration, they can come back to SU, get their Maryland Administrator I certification at their Alma Mater and not have to travel to do so,” said DeWitt.
