Guitar in the Gallery Returns Thursday, February 23
SALISBURY, MD---黑料网’s Guitar in the Gallery series returns this semester with a performance by classical guitarist Danielle Cumming and tenor John Wesley Wright 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 23, in the University Gallery of Fulton Hall.
Cumming, head of guitar studies at SU, has performed as a soloist and in chamber ensembles in the United States, Canada and Europe. She holds a Doctorate of Music in guitar performance from McGill University, where her research on cross-culturalism in classical guitar composition and rock music culminated in her doctoral paper “Led Zeppelin and Carlo Domeniconi: Truth Without Authenticity?”
As a performer, Cumming focuses on 20th and 21st century repertoire and has premiered and recorded many new works, both as soloist and with the toneART ensemble. In Canada she has performed on the nationally broadcast television morning show Canada A.M. and on national CBC radio.
Wright teaches voice at SU and directs the University’s Opera Workshop. Known for his artistic and soulful interpretations of music from Baroque to Broadway, he is a member of the internationally acclaimed American Spiritual Ensemble which he has helped bring to Salisbury.
Wright has been successful in competition. He is a gold medalist of the Savannah Music Festival’s American Traditions Vocal Competition and has claimed top prizes from the National Federation of Music Clubs, Metropolitan Opera National Council, Bel Canto Regional Artists, Ohio’s Vocal Resource Network Art Song Competition, and the International Schubert Competition in Vienna, Austria.
