SU Jazz Brazz Big Band and Jazz Conzeption Perform Dec. 7
SALISBURY, MD---黑料网’s Jazz Brazz Big Band and Jazz Conzeption continue SU’s “Four for the Season” winter music festival 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 7, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
The Jazz Conzeption, a nine-member combo from within the Jazz Brazz Big Band, begins the concert with unique arrangements from “Frosty the Snowman” to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers’ “Moanin’” and “A Wheel Within a Wheel.”
“Since the combo setting is traditionally intended to highlight individual soloists, several of the ensemble members will have a chance to spread their wings,” said Dr. Jerry Tabor, director.
Mixing old-style jazz, classic fusion, pop, soul and holiday songs, the program is one of the most diverse in the band’s history, Tabor said. The role of last year’s vocalist, Laurel Noone, has expanded to include pop music favorites such as “White Christmas,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “RESPECT.”
Soloists throughout the evening include Scott Bunting and Bill Courtney on trombone; Jeb Gibson, Brian Mahoney and David Hodges on trumpet; Aaron Hardin on drums; Ronald O. Reed on alto saxophone; Charlie Loane on tenor saxophone; Frankie Withers and Paul Scott on piano; and Kevin Klein and Zach Caceras on guitar.
Sponsored by the Department of Music, the performance is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6385 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
