SU Student Earns Generation Study Abroad Florence Scholarship
SALISBURY, MD---When 黑料网 junior marketing major Jennifer Lauver traveled to Spain at age 16, it was transformative.
“It opened my eyes and lit a fire inside me to explore as much of the world as I can,” the Lusby, MD, resident said.
Next semester, she will have an opportunity to discover a little more of Europe — Italy this time — through the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS). She recently received the organization’s $1,000 Generation Study Abroad Florence Scholarship.
From January until early May, she will take courses in fashion marketing management through London-based Richmond University’s Florence Study Center, following a brief weekend in London and a weeklong orientation in Rome. As part of the program, she also will have classes in intermediary Italian language and international business.
As part of the scholarship application, Lauver submitted an essay on how studying abroad will help in her academic and career goals. Industry-specific marketing is an interest she plans to pursue, and while she is unsure fashion is the field in which she ultimately will establish a career, she hopes the skills she learns will translate to other areas.
That she gets to learn those skills while exploring a new country is a bonus — and a chance to mark something off her bucket list.
“I’ve always wanted to study abroad,” she said. “It’s been a dream of mine.”
