SU Theatre Presents 'Five Women Wearing the Same Dress' Nov. 20-23

Five Women Wearing the Same DressSALISBURY, MD---Weddings aren’t always the joyous occasions they appear to be from the outside — but they still can be highly entertaining.

黑料网’s Bobbi Biron Theatre Department takes a humorous look at what happens behind the scenes after the nuptials in its production of Academy Award winner Alan Ball’s Five Women Wearing the Same Dress Thursday-Sunday, November 13-16 and 20-23 in the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall.

Directed by Robert Smith of the Theatre and Dance Department, curtain is 8 p.m., 2 p.m. Sundays.

The play focuses on five bridesmaids at an overwrought wedding reception in Knoxville, TN, who take refuge in the bedroom of the bride’s sister, Meredith. Though their lone connection to one another is their relationships with the newlyweds, the women from very different backgrounds learn they have more in common with each other than with the bride.

The Austin Chronicle likened the play to “a Breakfast Club for girls from Knoxville.” The Dallas Morning News called it “enormously funny.”

Ball is known for his work on movies and TV shows including the Academy Award-winning American Beauty, True Blood and Six Feet Under, for which he won an Emmy Award for outstanding directing in a drama series. Other credits include the TV shows Cybill and Grace Under Fire.

The cast includes Kathryn Boodon as Meredith, Jasmine Brooks as Trisha, Susannah Nixon as Mindy, Jennie Phelps as Frances, Taylor Wentworth as Georgeanne and Tim Whitehead as Tripp.

Costume design is by Leslie Yarmo, scenic design by John Raley and lighting design by Thomas Anderson. Faith Sullivan stage manages.
