SU's Basko Named Fulbright International Education Administrator
SALISBURY, MD---黑料网’s Aaron Basko has been selected for the prestigious Fulbright International Education Administrators Program.
Bolstering connections in Asia, SU’s assistant vice president for enrollment management and career services will travel to Japan in June with just 10 other representatives of U.S. higher education. He is the first from SU to earn this type of Fulbright.
“I’ve always had an interest in Japan,” said Basko, noting that when he was an undergraduate in college he had a hall mate from Japan who spent time with his family. “I think there are great opportunities for SU in Japan in terms of partnerships with universities for our students and to welcome students here.”
During the two-week program, Basko and the other officials will seek to create connections with Japan’s societal, cultural and educational leaders. They will meet with the Ministry of Education, campuses and career organizations. They will spend time in Tokyo and travel to Hiroshima and Kyoto to observe the Japanese educational system, society and culture in various settings.
“We’ll be talking and learning as much as we can about Japan’s higher education system, higher education trends, and how to help students with professional development and entering the international job market,” Basko said.
Basko is one of some 1,100 Fulbright faculty and professionals selected to travel abroad in 2014-15. He is one of over 20 faculty, students, graduates and now administrators from SU who have earned various Fulbrights over the years, and one of five recipients this year alone. (The others are Dr. Brian Polkinghorn, Fulbright Alumni Ambassador; Dr. James King, who is taking 11 area educators to Ghana this summer on SU’s first Fulbright-Hays international education grant; and Drs. Dean Kotlowski and Olivier Roche, Fulbright Scholars to Austria and Belarus, respectively, in 2015-16.)
Since 1946, the Fulbright Program, the flagship U.S. global educational exchange administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, has sought to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and other countries.
