Wenke Attends Conference, Chairs Melville Society Session

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. John Wenke, professor of English in the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts at Salisbury State University, was program chair for The Melville Society session at the 2000 Modern Language Association Convention held in Washington, D.C. recently. Presentation abstracts and Wenke’s introduction to the session, “Melville and Romanticism,” were recently published in the Spring 2001 edition of Melville Society Extracts.

In addition, a chapter from Wenke’s Melville’s Muse: Literary Creation and the Forms of Philosophical Fiction (1995)—“Ahab and the ‘Larger, Darker, Deeper Part’” will be reprinted in the second edition of the Norton Critical Edition of Moby-Dick, which will appear in September 2001, a month before the 150th  anniversary of the publication of Herman Melville’s masterwork.
