Wenke's Abstracts and Melville Writings Published
SALISBURY, MD--Dr. John Wenke, professor of English at Salisbury State University, was program chair for The Melville Society’s recent session at the Modern Language Association Convention in Washington, D.C.
The session's topic was "Melville and Romanticism." The abstracts for the presented papers, as well as Wenke's introduction to them, has been published in the spring 2001 edition of Melville Society Extracts.
Of related interest, a chapter from Wenke's Melville's Muse: Literary Creation and the Forms of Philosophical Fiction (1995)--“Ahab and 鈥榯he Larger, Darker, Deeper Part’”--will be reprinted in the second edition of the Norton Critical Edition of Moby-Dick. This volume will appear in September 2001, a month before the 150th anniversary of the publication of Herman Melville's masterwork
